Alex Spencer‘s songs are like chocolates: folk on the inside, jazz on the outside and occationally have a light sprinkling of pop. Inspired in equal part by the great jazz vocalists of the 30s and 40s (Billy Holliday, Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughn) and the great folk songwriters of the 60s and 70s (Joni Mitchell, Bob Dylan, Tom Waits), Alex Spencer blends these influences to come up with her own unique style.
Thoughtful lyrics that reflect on everyday themes as well as deeper philosophical questions give her audiences new ways to look at the world. With a crystal clear voice, Alex Spencer sores in and out of the vituoso alto-saxophone lines of Paul Engelmann, and comes to rest on the deep, steady rythm of Ben Lehmann‘s double-bass. Her new Album, "Shine“ released in April 2019, is a treasure trove of musical delights, chocked full of guest appearences by a variety of other musicians from the Berlin music scene.
